Large spikes of mixed colors flowers are produced in early summer, with several flower stems rising above the attractive fan-shaped leaves.
Lupines come into their own during warm, sunny days and cool nights and look especially lovely when grown in masses with similar varieties. A memorable sight for any garden lover, these beautiful plants grow into well-established clumps, with several stems rising up out of a single base. A bouquet of Lupines has no equal!
Lupine primarily refers to a genus of flowering plants in the legume family (Fabaceae), known scientifically as Lupinus. This genus includes over 200 species of herbaceous and partly woody plants, widely distributed worldwide, particularly in the Americas, Mediterranean, and Australia. These plants are often cultivated for their tall, colorful spikes of flowers in shades of blue, purple, pink, yellow, or white, which bloom in late spring to early summer.
Lupines are popular in gardens for attracting pollinators like butterflies and bees, and some species, such as the Texas bluebonnet (Lupinus texensis), are state flowers.
