Stokesia laevis

Stokesia laevis, known as Stokes' aster, is a sturdy, long-flowering perennial from the southeastern US. Though named for its aster-like appearance, it stands apart with exceptionally large blooms—typically 3–4 inches across with delicately fringed petals. Classic blue and violet-blue varieties anchor the color range, with cultivars extending to white, lavender, deep purple, and occasional pale yellow tones.

This compact performer occupies a strategic garden role: lower in stature than conventional summer daisies, yet with blooms commanding enough to anchor the front or mid-border with substantial color impact. Its extended bloom window and manageable height make it a reliable choice for mixed perennial plantings and shade-adjacent settings.
