Shipped Trimmed and Ready to Plant. We sell starter plants, carefully trimmed and prepared for planting upon arrival. They are shipped as bare root, bulbs or plugs, not in containers. Plants depicted in pictures are at maturity.
Transylvania (also sold as Transylvanian or Transylvanian Red) is a flavorful softneck garlic in the Artichoke subgroup—prized for its mild-mannered reliability, huge clove count, and Eastern European heritage.
Clove count: 12–20+ small-to-medium cloves in multiple concentric layers (classic Artichoke style).
Flavor: Mild to medium when raw—warm, garlicky, with no harsh bite and a subtle sweetness. Cooks to a creamy, nutty taste. Perfect for everyday cooking, kids, or crowd-pleasing dishes.
Scape: None (softneck—no scapes, more energy to bulbs).
Skin: Rose-to-red blushed wrappers with occasional purple streaks. Inner clove skins are easy-peel ivory.
Storage: Very good for a softneck—8–10 months in cool, dry storage (not quite Silverskin level, but close).
Bulb size: Large (2–3+ inches); often produces jumbo bulbs in rich soil.

Your order should arrive within 4-10 days depending on where you live.
Returns & Exchanges
Send us a request from our Chat bubble. Include your Order Number and Tell Us Why you are not satisfied and would like a refund. We require returns for refunds covering 6 or more plants so that we can review the plants and report back to our growers important issues. Unfortunately, we do not pay for return shipping.
